D-SUB plastic housing or metal housing or plastic metallization options and advantages and disadvant

  • Metal shell: 1. Zinc alloy material 2. Aluminum alloy profile
  • Plastic shell: ABS, PP, PVC, PA66, PC

There are many options and components for D-Sub connector housings, and it's crucial to find the type that best suits your specific use case. This article contains everything you need to know to help you choose your ultimate D-Sub connector housing based on the answers to a few simple puzzles

1. When choosing raw materials, you have the following options:

Metal shell:

1. Zinc alloy material 2. Aluminum alloy profile

Plastic shell:

ABS, PP, PVC, PA66, PC.

2. Shell electroplating process color selection:

Die Cast Metal - Nickel Plated, Stainless Steel, Black Plated, Electrophoretic Black, Silk Black, Passivated, or Custom Tint

Plastic material metallization - plastic electric stainless steel, plastic metal electroplating nickel color

The natural color of plastic materials is generally dark gray, with gray and black accounting for the majority, and various natural colors are available.

3. Equipped with shell parts:

Generally, DB has more metal shell parts than plastic parts.

Metal shell spare parts: screws, cable connectors, wire sleeves, steel cutting, etc.

Plastic housing parts: screws, splitters, washers, etc.

4. Salt spray test regulations:

Generally, there are no special requirements, usually 24 hours. If there are special requirements, we can make 48h, 72h, or 96h.

The raw material selected may depend on the requirements of the application. Generally, plastic D-Sub connector shells are more cost-effective, but plastic shells are generally not heat-resistant, have short service times, and have poor shielding performance.

Die-cast DB metal housings are typically durable and can withstand the extremes of the elements. The shielding effect is stronger than plastic casings, and if it is likely to be matched for many cycle times or the cable will be exposed to excessive noise in the harsh use specified, it is better to choose a more malleable raw material, such as die-cast metal.

If you frequently use or frequently insert the connector, it is recommended that you use a D-SUB connector with a metal shell, which is durable, heat-resistant, has an insertion frequency of 10W times, is oxidation-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and reasonably reduces the attenuation coefficient value, making the transmission more stable.

Our factory covers an area of 3,500 square meters in Dongguan. We currently have 3 die-casting machines and thousands of molds. All products are self-owned molds. Mold masters with 30 years of experience can explain drawings/samples for customized production. OEM ODM’s MOQ=500pcs.
